Jimmy Rose – Zapier Mastery
Automation is scary.
But for a moment, let’s pretend you don’t love it as much as I do. Why should you care so much about automation?
Time leverage is the most important reason I have for this. In other words – getting more stuff done in less time. Automation is similar to investing money except that you can also automate your time. It takes some time to set up and will pay you back for years to come.
There’s more than that though. It is helpful:
Let go of the pressure – Everyone is so busy. They’ll tell you that “there just aren’t enough hours in the day.” You don’t have to deal with this. Automating your life will help you to free up your headspace.
Scale your business – When you & your team are more productive, it’s easier to justify the next hire. Focus on the important things – No one likes to do repetitive or mundane tasks. Once you have automated these, you’ll have more time to work ON your business.
Keep your eyes on the prize – It’s a waste of mental energy to switch between tasks. It is important to remove tasks from your plates so that you can remain focused on the profit.-making work.
Reducing human error – Humans make mistakes when they do things. Give that same task to a computer and it’s done right.
You will feel like a wizard. It’s fun to create automations. When you make one work you’ll want to do a dance around the office. Maybe that’s just me.
We’re all too busy
Does it feel like you’re constantly busy? “I’m so busy” When someone asks you how you’re doing, it has become the standard response. Some people even wear being busy like a badge – as if it’s a good thing.
It’s not.
You need to be able to see the big picture as a business owner. It is important to take time to consider the strategy and direction for your business. Being “busy” It takes too much time.
You feel pressured to be productive all the time. It’s happened to me so many times. I’ll take time off to hang out with friends or family and be anxious the whole time like I should be doing something. It’s called “The Effortless Hour”. “entrepreneurial guilt.” But it is possible to break it.
It was only after I started to escape that I noticed it more. One time I was on holiday with entrepreneurs. Laptops were available before the first day was done. Everyone was involved in some way or another. “just had to be done.”
We couldn’t even get a single day into the trip before work happened. It was only 3 days.
Being busy sucks. Entrepreneurial guilt sucks. It is difficult to find the time.
These are why I love automation so very much. It’s how I’ve been able to reduce that guilt and take more time for myself. It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to get away from the computer and know that things are still happening.
