I would check the stats every ten minute in hopes of seeing my first visitor. After a few days, I realized that traffic was not going to just happen by itself.

So I decided to start all over again. I’d spend the days & hours building a new site. Then I would go over the stat checking process again. Then, nothing would happen. I would then go back to building another website and everything would be re-written.

You’ll see the point. Perhaps you’ve been there.

 You’ll be able to relate to the frustration. It can make you insane, can’t it? It can drive you crazy. MONTHS building your new site. Graphic designers are expensive. You work tirelessly to get the HTML working correctly. You finally manage to get it online. And what do you do?

Nothing. No traffic jamming, no fanfares. There are no profits. The only thing you can hear is silence from the rest of the internet, who are silently ignoring your website.

That is frustrating! You will feel the need to quit after only a few of these situations. It is hard to imagine how big dogs make millions and get thousands of visitors every day, when you don’t get even 5 visitors per day.

Let me tell ya, I believed it for the longest time. I believed all the successful marketers and gurus but it was all BS. I couldn’t get anything to work so why would they try? I was referring to the fact that I had some success with Ebay, and a few other bits, but traffic was a constant struggle.

Then things got worse. It got even worse.

Google is what I found, as you can see. Adwords. It’s not a bad thing by itself, but I was influenced by the hype. I believed I would be getting traffic for as little as 2 cents per click.

It began well. As all the books recommend, I kept my budget and bids low. I received a few clicks from my ads. Although there were no sales, I was optimistic. AdwordsYou’ll find out what happened next.

It got real expensive, real quick. My ad rates went up. It went up WAY!

Keywords I was getting for 25c per click suddenly needed me to bid $2.50 just to “activate” them. It’s not easy to break even or make a profit when you pay $2.50 for each click. But I kept at it. I hate to quit… and guess what?

I was basically banging my face against a wall.. Ignoring the signs, becoming more frustrated and despondent by each day.

In less than a month, I was in debt enough to pay $2k for Google. I was almost a gambling addict. All I did was throw money at it. Adwords In an attempt to somehow make it big, and get back all I have lost…

So I gave up. I accepted the hit and paid Google for their fees. It was time for me to forget. AdwordsSo I focused on other traffic methods…

A few years later, I was at an advertising convention in Las Vegas.
